The history of Supernal Endgame
Supernal Endgame's beginning was in the year 2000 when John Eargle and Rob Price had the idea of forming a unique band with a spiritual emphasis, fusing symphonic progressive rock and artsy power. They brought in other musicians, (notably Dan Pomeroy, with whom they had played before) to share this goal. A healthy dose of AOR pomp rock and a touch of celtic folk and ambient music were also thrown into the mix to create a diverse yet consistent sound, complete with tin whistles, violins, tympani, etc. playing a prominent role. If you can imagine the sound of bands like Yes, Kansas, Rush, Transatlantic, and Genesis mixed with the intelligent pop of bands like Keane, Mutemath, The Corrs, and Jellyfish, and the spiritual sensibilities of, say, Iona or Neal Morse, then you might get close to describing the style of Supernal Endgame... thoughtful compositions with a ton of hooks.
With a revolving door of members through the years, the band decided to record as a trio (John, Rob, and Dan). The first project was to mix all of these styles into a unique "worship" project titled "Touch the Sky". A couple of discs worth of tunes have been (and still are being) recorded, but the first volume was released on the Progrock Records label on March 30th 2010 and includes special guests Roine Stolt (of The Flower Kings and Transatlantic) and Randy George (of Ajalon and the Neal Morse band). Touch the Sky: Volume II is approaching the final stages of recording at this time.
After the release of TTS: Volume I, a buzz for the band emerged in the prog rock community. "I just love a good hook and a good melody and Supernal Endgame has it in droves, I was really excited to get these guys on the label.” said Shawn Gordon, President of ProgRock Records. The sheer number of enthusiastic international reviews was a surprise to the band. (Refer to the press page to see exerpts).
The Summer of 2010 brought two new members to the band. Tom More on bass guitar and Jett Cheek on keyboards. Generally a violinist is used in live gigs, but the search for the perfect permanent member continues. In the Summer of 2011, Dan left the band to pursue another vision. New guitarist, John Crafton has stepped in to take over his duties rounding out the band in its present incarnation.
Supernal Endgame has contributed music on other projects as well. Their version of “The Flower King” was included on Colassus Magazine’s tribute album “A Flower Full Of Stars: A Tribute To The Flower Kings” on the Musea label which was released in the Summer of 2011. They also appear on the new CPR 4 compilation released about the same time. They will be contributing their cover of the song “Parallels” to a forthcoming Yes tribute album entitled “Tales From the Edge” on the Mellow label in the near future. A tune was also donated to the Haiti Relief Projekt in the Spring of 2010. Touch the Sky: Volume II is due out in early 2012. Keep checking back for more details.
